The extensive expansion at our headquarters in Ebbs is now in the final stages. By the end of the year, the substantial addition will be completed, and our current 400 employees will have 20,000 m² of new building space at their disposal. In addition to a cutting-edge logistics centre, an air-conditioned CNC production centre, an order picking area for customers, state-of-the-art offices, an exceptional company catering service, and an impressive assembly hall, during this building project, great emphasis was placed on the supply of renewable energy.
Groundwater heat pump for heating and cooling
The entire new building will be heated and cooled with a 570 kW groundwater heat pump cascade and corresponding ventilation units. The abstraction volume from the 15-metre deep groundwater well is 79,000 m³ per hour. When compared to conventional heating systems, the heat pump system reduces emissions by approx. 195,000 kg CO2 per year. The well-cooling system (in comparison to an electrically-driven cooling unit) enables an emissions reduction of approx. 50,000 kg CO2 per year. Hannes Auer, Executive Manager of 3CON, emphasized, “It is important to us to deploy a heating system that can grow with our expansions and can be easily integrated into our existing building technology”.
Solar power from the roof
Currently, our company consumes 1.2 million kWh of electricity per year. During the early planning phase of the new build, we put considerable thought into how we could optimise our power supply. Ultimately, we decided to install our own photovoltaic system with modules covering a surface of 2,700 m² on the roof of the assembly halls. Photovoltaic systems in the commercial sector are becoming increasingly attractive since the self-generated electricity during the day can be consumed immediately. The 3CON photovoltaic system has an output of 500 kWp and covers approx. 50% of our power requirement. The significant CO2 reduction through solar power from the roof totals approx. 318,000 kg per year.
FUTUREPROOF SOLUTIONS
Our guiding principle “FUTUREPROOF SOLUTIONS for Automotive Interior” is not only a promise of performance to our customers – futureproof thinking, planning and action are a holistically practised philosophy in all of our business divisions. Therefore, when implementing the building project, the utmost importance was placed on the use of innovative and environmentally-friendly elements. “Economic viability was not the only priority of this building project. The ergonomic and sustainable aspect was also a decisive factor in the decision to use green energy from the photovoltaic system and heat pump. Our goal is to achieve a CO2-neutral production by the year 2025,” reported 3CON CEO Hannes Auer.
